Alphabet's median salary was $295,884 in 2021, while Amazon lifted its base pay cap to $350,000 amid a competitive labor market, the Wall Street Journal reported May 31.
Tech companies led the way in employee pay last year with 12 of the 25 best-paid median workers, including at Meta and Netflix, the analysis found.
The median pay at Alphabet was up 14% from 2019, while Amazon raised its cap on base pay from $160,000, showing how employers are responding to 50-year-low unemployment rates and record-high numbers of job openings and quit rates, the newspaper reported. At 150 of the 275 S&P 500 companies analyzed, median pay had risen 10% or more compared to two years earlier.
Median pay at cybersecurity firm Fortinet was $202,875, up from $122,329 in 2019, the analysis found, while Apple has pledged to boost salaries and raise its minimum wage for U.S. workers to $22 an hour.
