San Antonio is now the first large city in Texas to have all its major hospitals linked on a single regional health information exchange.
Southwest General Hospital was the sixth hospital system to the join the HIE. It joined Baptist Health System, Christus Santa Rosa Health System, Methodist Healthcare System, Nix Health and University Health System, and the addition of its records made the HIE reach nearly 1.2 million records, according to mySA.
The HIE also contains the data of nearly 3.8 million patient encounters. It achieved accreditation from the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission and the Texas Health Services Authority in July 2014. The accreditation ensures that HIEs within Texas are interoperable with state and federal programs nad provide private, secure and proper exchange of health information, according to HASA's website.
