Alaska telehealth bill moves to governor's desk

After Alaska lawmakers in the state House passed it with a 33-6 vote last week, a state bill focused on telehealth is moving to Gov. Bill Walker (R), according to StateScoop.com.

The bill, titled S.B. 74, would make changes to Alaska's telemedicine policies. Specifically, it would allow physicians licensed to practice in Alaska but who live outside the state the chance to consult with Medicaid patients via teleconferences.

Gov. Walker recently claimed the bill "could save the state more than $365 million in the first six years," according to the report, but he has taken action on it yet.

"This legislation is an example of the great things we can accomplish as a state when we pull together as Alaskans to do what's right for Alaska," said Gov. Walker in a statement, according to the report.
