Workers in the Washington, D.C., metro area are considering leaving their current IT jobs for new roles at Amazon, which plans to establish a second headquarters in the area, FedScoop reports.
A recent Eagle Hill Consulting survey found that 71 percent of IT workers in the D.C. area are considering applying to new roles at Amazon. What's more, 51 percent of the entire D.C.-area workforce is also considering it.
The No.1 reason workers say they'd consider taking a job at Amazon was salary, followed by "more interesting work," according to FedScoop.
"Area employers should be worried, especially those that need to retain their tech talent," Eagle Hill President and CEO Melissa Jezior told FedScoop. "Employers should do all they can now to hang on to their employees before Amazon arrives — especially in such a tight labor market."
Ms. Jezior added that federal agencies should be particularly concerned, given the current government shutdown and its potential effect on employee morale.
