Innovation centers are popping up in the healthcare industry with increasing speed. Hospitals and health systems are aligning with such centers to get ahead of the care delivery reform curve and find more efficient, effective and lower cost ways to deliver care.
The Commonwealth Fund conducted a survey of 33 hospitals, clinics and patient homes to examine how these providers and their related innovation centers are developing and spreading new models of care.
The survey also asked respondents how innovation centers decide which projects are worth the investment.
Here are the top seven reasons innovation centers noted as being "extremely important" when deciding to invest in a project.
1. Clinical and health outcomes (75 percent said this was "extremely important" in making their decision)
2. Patient engagement/experience (59 percent)
3. Efficiency gains (50 percent)
4. Cost savings (28 percent)
5. Return on investment (28 percent)
6. Other criteria (22 percent)
7. Revenue (9 percent)
