While personal mobile devices are becoming more present in healthcare, mobile cybersecurity defenses are slow to keep up.
Here are five mobile security concerns in healthcare from Skycure, a mobile threat defense company.
1. In 2015, 70 percent of physicians used mobile devices to manage inpatient data. What's more, 74 percent of physicians used multiple devices.
2. Eight in 10 physicians use mobile devices to assist their day-to-day practice, and nearly three in 10 store patient data on those mobile devices.
3. The mobile devices used present varying risks of exposure. Nearly 32 percent present minimal risk, 24 percent present low risk, 41 percent present medium risk and 2 percent present high risk.
4. Physicians often share patient data through mobile devices: 65 percent send data through text messages, 46 percent send data through picture messages and 33 percent send data through messaging application Whatsapp.
5. Fourteen percent of mobile devices that contain patient data do not have a passcode.
