6 Statistics on Ambulatory Physician EHR Satisfaction

Ambulatory physicians are generally dissatisfied with their electronic health record system, according to a survey conducted by IDC Health.

Results indicated 58 percent of ambulatory providers are dissatisfied, very dissatisfied or neutral about their experience with their EHR system. The top reasons for dissatisfaction revolved around productivity: 85 percent of physicians reported spending more time on documentation, and 66 percent reported seeing fewer patients as a result of the EHR.

"Despite achieving meaningful use, most office-based providers find themselves at lower productivity levels than before the implementation of EHR. Workflow, usability, productivity and supplier quality issues continue to drive dissatisfaction and need to be addressed by suppliers and practices," said IDC Research Director Judy Hanover in a news release.

Physicians are beginning to see the benefits of EHRs, however. The top reasons for physician satisfaction with an EHR included a reduction in the number of lost or missing charts (82 percent), the ability to access medical records and work remotely (75 percent) and incentive payments (56 percent).
