5 things to know about Nomad Health

Nomad is the first online marketplace for short-term clinical jobs where physicians and nurses can find work based on factors such as pay rates and location, without using agency recruiters. At the same time, the platform allows hospitals and clinics to post open shifts for free and contract directly with the best clinicians to fill those vacancies, saving them time and money.

Here are five things to know about Nomad:

1. Alexi Nazem, MD, co-founded Nomad Health with a team of physicians and technologists, and currently serves as CEO. Dr. Nazem is a practicing internal medicine physician at Weill Cornell Medical College. Co-founder Zander Pease serves as vice president of product; he has previous experience on the Union Square Ventures investment team.

2. The company launched on the East Coast in 2016 and expanded to include California and Texas in June 2017.

3. Physicians can find locum tenens and telehealth opportunities using the Nomad marketplace. Travel nurses can connect with openings without going through recruiters. All clinicians need to do is create a free online profile, which Nomad automatically fills with information from public databases. Then clinicians message medical facilities directly to apply and negotiate rates.

4. Nomad deals with the credentialing, licensing and malpractice insurance necessities for clinicians placed through their platform. The company also books travel and lodging if necessary for free.

5. Clinicians may decide to take extra work to supplement their income, work flexible hours, gain experience from healthcare facilities across the nation or aid underserved populations. The platform can also help residents and fellows transitioning to their practice, or experienced physicians ease into retirement.
