New York state leads the country in electronic prescribing of controlled substances, according to a Center for Data Innovation report.
For the report, the data-policy think tank benchmarked U.S. states on 25 indicators related to data-driven innovation. The indicators assess states' strengths across three categories: data availability, technology platforms and human-business capital.
Within the data availability category, the Center for Data Innovation ranked all 50 states based on the percentage of controlled substances that were prescribed electronically. Some states, like New York, mandate physicians electronically prescribe controlled substances.

3. Delaware
4. California
5. Texas
