4 US healthcare providers win Microsoft Health Innovation Award

Microsoft announced the winners of its 2015 Microsoft Health Innovation Awards at HIMSS, including four U.S. healthcare providers.

The award acknowledges health organizations and their technology solution partners that are using Microsoft technology to innovate and improve healthcare by advancing patient care, reducing costs and streamlining clinical and business processes.

In 2015, Microsoft presented Health Innovation Awards in five innovation categories — analytics, patient engagement, operations and workflows, productivity and mobility, and open innovation.

Listed below are the four award-winning U.S. healthcare providers and their health IT partners.

Innovation in patient engagement

  • Children's Specialized Hospital (Mountainside, N.J.) — Children's is using a solution created by BluePrint Healthcare IT that empowers real-time, team-based care coordination and communication in its large primary care practice.
  • Community Healthcare System (Munster, Ind.) — Together, Community Healthcare Foundation and Hitachi Consulting designed a wellness program that uses real-time data to educate and motivate employees to adopt healthier behaviors. The program has decreased healthcare costs consistently for participants since 2010.

Innovation in operations and workflow

  • Intermountain Healthcare (Salt Lake City) — Intermountain Healthcare invested in a media-rich, audio-video solution and infrastructure to support its telehealth goals, allowing the system to communicate with patients and fostering care team collaboration.

Innovation in productivity and mobility

  • Cardiovascular Center of Marin (Larkspur, Calif.) — The Cardiovascular Center of Marin is using a full-featured, touch-enabled mobile EHR application from Allscripts to improve physician productivity and mobility.
