The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently released a report detailing the use of electronic health record systems among office-based physicians through 2013. The findings provide insight into physicians' readiness to attest to meaningful use stage 2.
Key findings from the report include:
- In 2013, 69 percent of office-based physicians reported that they intended to attest to meaningful use, while 19 percent of physicians were uncertain and 12 percent were not going to apply.
- About 13 percent of physicians reported that they both intended to participate in meaningful use incentives and had EHR systems with the capabilities to support 14 of the 17 stage 2 requirements.
- Of physicians intending to participate in the EHR incentives programs generally, 19 percent had EHR systems with the capabilities to support 14 of the 17 meaningful use stage 2 requirements.
- About 56 percent of all physicians intended to participate in the EHR incentive programs but did not have EHR systems with the capabilities to support 14 of the meaningful use stage 2 requirements. This percentage accounts for 81 percent of physicians intending to participate in the program.
