The dynamics of data privacy are changing quickly as consumers exercise more control over how their data is used for commercial purposes and governments take more action in that arena, the Harvard Business Review reported Feb. 25.
Here are 3 ways data privacy may change:
- Instead of companies collecting data without customers understanding why or how, meaningful consent will soon be the norm, with customers choosing to which companies they give their data, the report said. Along those lines, more hospitals and health systems will have to secure meaningful consent from patients to share certain aspects of EHR record data.
- More companies will move toward sharing insights gained from analyzing data instead of sharing the data itself, leaving personally identifiable information with the customer instead of with companies.
- The role of the CIO will become more collaborative with chief data officers, with both positions helping manage flow from insights and prevent silos, according to Harvard Business Review.
