Chesterfield, Mo.-based Mercy Health has opened the world's first virtual care/telemedicine center.
Here are three things to know about the center.
1. It houses the country's largest single-hub electronic intensive care unit, and also provides a center for telemedicine innovation and a testing ground for new healthcare products and services.
2. It brings together more than 300 physicians, nurses, specialists, researchers and support staff. Care is delivered 24/7 via audio, video and data connections to locations across Mercy and around the country through partnerships with other healthcare providers and large employers.
3. The four-story virtual care center occupies 125,000 square feet and is a hub for telemedicine research and training.
