3 things keeping CIOs up at night

The following three concerns are top of mind for CIOs, according to a survey commissioned by Sungard Availability Services.

1. Security threats: CIOs indicate these threats are largely internal. Sixty-two percent of respondents said leaving mobile phones or laptops in vulnerable places is their main security concern, followed by 59 percent of respondents indicating sharing passwords was their top concern. Approximately half of respondents said security planning should be the last item to undergo budget cuts this year.

2. Downtime: Downtime during disaster recovery can be costly and can damage reputations, which is why 42 percent of survey respondents said testing disaster recovery plans are vital to organizations and should be among the last items cut from budgets in 2015.

3. Talent acquisition: Approximately 38 percent of respondents indicated concerns regarding talent acquisition, and 50 percent said talent acquisition and retention are too often overlooked.
