3 reasons why Chattanooga is a healthcare hotspot

Chattanooga, Tenn., has grown into a healthcare locus for providers, insurers and startups. 

Here are three things to know about the city's healthcare industry.

1. Chattanooga serves as headquarters for Erlanger Health System. The five-hospital organization is growing, and broke ground on a $40 million children's hospital June 6.

2. BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, the state's largest payer, and global disability benefits provider Unum Group, are also headquartered in Chattanooga.

3. The city is home to the third largest startup incubator in the U.S. INCubator has spurred several healthcare startups, including 3D Ops, which uses CT scans and MRIs to create 3-D printed body part models; CPR Lifewrap, a provider of disposable plastic guides for CPR administration; Aegle Gear, a provider of antimicrobial apparel; and American Exchange, a provider of Medicare and payer enrollment services.
