Since 2005, HIMSS Analytics' Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model has tracked EMR adoption in hospitals and health systems throughout the country. The eight-stage model cumulates with stage 7, in which paper records are no longer used. Stage 7 organizations are also able to share patient information electronically and have advanced data analytics capabilities.
To date, 137 hospitals across the country have reached stage 7. In 2013, the following 26 hospitals reached this milestone:
