1. A Texas man has been charged in federal court for impersonating representatives of Cerner and selling a hospital an MRI worth more than $1 million.
2. Microsoft has become the first major cloud provider to adopt the world's first international standard for cloud privacy.
3. San Francisco-based McKesson is expanding into Clear Lake Iowa, building a $65 million warehouse and distribution center.
4. Cerner was named to Fortune's annual "Most Admired Companies" list, ranked No. 1 in the "Health Care: Pharmacy and Other Services" category.
5. MDOps, a dictation-based clinical documentation software, joined the Allscripts Developer Program for inclusion in the Allscripts Sunrise Acute Care solution EHR tool.
6. Verona, Wis.-based Epic Systems announced plans to launch its own app store which will allow outside companies to develop applications that work with Epic's EHR platform.
7. Black Book Rankings released its Health Information Exchange market research report, ranking Cerner as the best vendor for EHR-based HIEs.
8. Cerner issued a warning after a man claimed he was he victim of a scam where he was falsely promised a job with the company.
9. GE Healthcare, an arm of industry giant General Electric Co., announced it will hire 500 employees at a new facility in Marlborough, Mass.
10. As athenahealth's product offerings grow, so do plans for its employee numbers. The Watertown, Mass.-based IT vendor plans to add approximately 1,000 employees this year.
11. In an attempt to reduce costs, Siemens AG is planning to cut approximately 7,400 jobs worldwide.
12. athenahealth purchased the web-based clinical applications and EHR platform developed by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
13. Nearly six months after Cerner announced it would acquire Siemens' health technology division, the acquisition is complete, effective Feb. 2, creating a combined annual research and development investment of more than $650 million.
