These health IT moves have been reported since Oct. 29:
- Denise Basow, MD, will join Ochsner Health System as senior vice president and chief digital officer, effective Jan. 3.
- Thomas Marlow Jr. has been named CIO of Dallas-based Southwestern Health Resources. Mr. Marlow previously served as vice president of software applications at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pa.
- Shashi Vangala has been selected as the chief data and value creation officer of Southwestern Health Resources. Throughout Mr. Vangala's 20-year career in healthcare, he has held several leadership roles in data and analytics at organizations, including Dallas-based Baylor Scott and White Health.
- David Carmouche, MD, was named Walmart Health's senior vice president of Omnichannel Care Solutions, where he will oversee the retail giant's expansion of clinical care and telehealth offerings. Dr. Carmouche joins Walmart Health from Ochsner, where he serves as the executive vice president of value-based care and network operations.
- John McNamara has been appointed senior vice president for marketing and communications at Honolulu-based Hawaii Pacific Health.
- Ryan Jacobs has been appointed chief commercial officer of digital kidney care company Cricket Health. Mr. Jacobs most recently served as a vice president of OptumHealth's population health business, where he led market strategy and commercialization.
- Chet Robson, DO, has been named CMO of MDisrupt, a platform that connects digital health companies with scientists to scale products. In his previous role, Dr. Robson served as the chief clinical officer at Walgreens and the medical director of the Walgreens Boots Alliance global COVID-19 pandemic response.
- Donald Rucker, MD, has been named chief strategy officer of 1upHealth, a cloud-based Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources platform. Dr. Rucker recently served as HHS' national coordinator for health IT, a position he held for nearly four years.
- Alex Gorsky, the chair and CEO of Johnson & Johnson, has been elected to serve on Apple's board of directors to guide the technology company's healthcare push.
- Andy Slavitt, a former CMS administrator, will temporarily chair the office of the CEO of Alphabet's healthcare spinout Cityblock Health, company CEO Iyah Romm announced this week.
- President Joe Biden unveiled plans to nominate Kurt DelBene as the CIO and assistant secretary for information and technology at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Mr. DelBene previously served as Microsoft's executive vice president of corporate strategy, core services engineering and operations before retiring in September.
- Andy Chu has been tapped as the senior vice president of product and technology incubation of Providence Innovation Group, a health innovation center within Renton, Wash.-based Providence.
- Tom Skelton, the CEO of health IT company Surescripts, announced his plans to retire Dec. 31, 2022. Mr. Skelton will work with the board of directors to find his successor and with the incoming CEO during the transition period.
