As of this February, the federal government has paid out nearly $12.7 billion in Medicare and Medicaid electronic health record incentive payments, which have been ongoing for almost two years now.
HHS started doling out Medicaid EHR incentives in January 2011 and Medicare EHR incentives in May 2011. Of the $12.7 billion, eligible hospitals have received almost $8.2 billion.
