11 recent moves from health IT companies

From new products to multimillion-dollar funding rounds to acquisitions, here's the latest roundup of stories about health IT companies, including Epic, Cerner and Google.

  1. Health data company Datavant and health information management company Ciox Health finalized their $7 billion merger agreement.

  2. Google and Facebook became two of the first big tech companies to require all employees at their U.S. campuses to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

  3. Epic told its U.S.-based employees they will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Oct. 1.

  4. Fresh off announcing its transition to a hybrid work model, Cerner is planning to sell its Kansas City, Kan.-based Continuous Campus and consolidate employees at two other office locations.

  5. Google Cloud unveiled its healthcare data engine to offer end-to-end solutions from multiple platforms, such as EHRs, claims and research data. The data engine will help clinicians have real-time access to patient records in a scalable and secure cloud environment.

  6. WebMD acquired the Wellness Network, a digital platform that provides hospitals and health systems with video-based patient education resources.

  7. San Francisco-based healthcare provider Carbon Health closed a $350 million series D funding round, which it said would help it "become the largest primary care provider in the U.S."

  8. Sema4, a genomics company spun out of New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System, went public via a $500 million merger deal with special purpose acquisition company CM Life Sciences.

  9. Canon Medical Systems unveiled its strategy to transform its health IT division. The company well-known for manufacturing cameras is seeking to broaden its capabilities to deliver artificial intelligence, enterprise and collaborative imaging solutions.

  10. The parent company of Catalyst Health Network, a 1,000-physician network based in Plano, Texas, acquired digital health company MediBookr.

  11. The National Institutes of Health tapped Microsoft Azure as the cloud platform for its Science and Technology Research Infrastructure for Discovery, Experimentation and Sustainability Initiative, which provides cloud technology and services for biomedical research.
