The following IT and informatics executive moves have been reported in the past two months, starting with the most recent.
1. Praveen Chopra Named CIO at TJUH
Praveen Chopra is now the executive vice president and CIO at Thomas Jefferson University and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, both in Philadelphia. Mr. Chopra previously served as vice president, chief supply chain officer and CIO at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
2. Abington Health Taps Dr. Jonathan Sternlieb for CMIO Role
Abington (Pa.) Health hired Jonathan Sternlieb, MD, as CMIO. Dr. Sternlieb will assist in the planning and implementation of Abington Health's new clinical information systems, as well as provide leadership on clinical decision support and evidence-based clinical improvement initiatives.
Dr. Sternlieb, a practicing gastroenterologist, recently completed a graduate certificate program in biomedical and health informatics at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland.
3. Dr. Bruce Darrow Appointed CMIO at Mount Sinai Medical Center
The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City has a new CMIO: Bruce Darrow, MD, PhD. Dr. Darrow had been the medical center's interim CMIO since February 2012. In his new, permanent role, he will report to CIO Kumar Chatani and will be a part of Mount Sinai's IT leadership team. Dr. Darrow will also continue his work as a practicing cardiologist.
4. KentuckyOne Health Names CIO
Louisville-based KentuckyOne Health selected Doug Jones as regional CIO. Mr. Jones most recently served as an independent health IT consultant. He previously served as CIO for the California region of Providence Health and Services.
5. Baptist Health Selects Dr. David Bensema as CIO
Louisville, Ky.-based Baptist Health appointed David Bensema, MD, as CIO. Previously, Dr. Bensema served as CMIO for Baptist Health. He joined the organization in 2006 as executive director of physician services for Central Baptist Hospital — now Baptist Health Lexington — as well as medical director of Baptist Physicians Lexington.
6. CTCA Selects Kristin Darby as CIO
Schaumburg, Ill.-based Cancer Treatment Centers of America named Kristin Darby CIO. Most recently, Ms. Darby served as CIO of the northeast region for Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare. She also served as CIO and vice president of information solutions for risk management foundation of the Harvard Medical Institutions in Boston.
7. Chad Eckes Joins Wake Forest Baptist as CIO
As of March, Chad Eckes is the CIO of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Previously, Mr. Eckes served as chief strategy officer for the Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
8. Sharp HealthCare Names Ken Lawonn CIO
Sharp HealthCare in San Diego appointed Ken Lawonn CIO. Prior to his current position, Mr. Lawonn served as senior vice president for strategy and technology at Alegent Creighton Health in Omaha, Neb.
9. Freeman Health System Names Dr. Thomas Glodek CMIO
Freeman Health System in Joplin, Mo., named Thomas Glodek, MD, the organization's new CMIO. Previously, Dr. Glodek was the founder and CEO of Physician Advisory Services Group, a physician-led consulting firm that assisted providers with health IT implementations.
10. Baylor Scott & White Appoints Matthew Chambers CIO
Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health officially announced Matthew Chambers will serve as the system's CIO. Mr. Chambers previously served as CIO of Scott & White Healthcare in Temple, Texas. Last fall, Dallas-based Baylor Health Care System and Scott & White Healthcare completed their merger, forming the largest nonprofit health system in the state. Mr. Chambers is now in charge of IT for the entire organization.
11. Effingham Health System Names Mary Pizzino CIO
Effingham Health System in Springfield, Ga., named Mary Pizzino CIO. Ms. Pizzino joined the health system in 2006, and since then has been working in a management capacity in the system's IT department.
