Approximately 10 percent of EHRs certified by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology were never tested on clinical professionals, according to a report from Politico.
MedStar's National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare conducted the research, evaluating 62 ONC-certified EHR vendors. The research also shows one quarter of the EHR products had not been tested on physicians before certification.
In addition, there were scenarios in which as few as two people, sometimes employees of the EHR vendor, were the only end user testing products received before certification.
The research, which is still unpublished, was discussed in a recent federal health IT policy committee meeting, according to the report.
