Abbott Northwestern Hospital (Minneapolis). The physicians at the Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital have a 96 percent patient recommendation rate and treat tens of thousands of patients each year. The institute provides highly specialized services, such as its center for genetic arrhythmias. The institute recently earned a place on the U.S. News & World Report's list of top 25 hospitals for heart care and heart surgery.
Adventist Medical Center (Portland, Ore.). Northwest Regional Heart and Vascular at Adventist Medical Center is one of three accredited chest pain centers in Oregon. Adventist Medical Center was one of 164 hospitals to receive the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Platinum Performance Achievement Award in 2013, recognizing the hospital's high standard of care for heart attack patients. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.
Advocate Christ Medical Center (Oak Lawn, Ill.). The Heart and Vascular Institute at Advocate Christ Medical Center has performed the most open-heart surgeries of any hospital in Illinois. Advocate Christ Medical Center was named to U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery in 2013-14. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.
Allen Memorial Hospital (Waterloo, Iowa). Allen Memorial Hospital's Allen Heart and Vascular Center is one of 164 hospitals nationwide to receive two consecutive "exceptional heart care" ratings from the American College of Cardiology Foundation. Allen Memorial is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for heart care. It was named to Truven Health Analytics' 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in 2012.
AnMed Health (Anderson, S.C.). AnMed Health Heart and Vascular Center offers comprehensive cardiac services, cardiac rehabilitation and access to cardiovascular research trials. AnMed is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care and has also been recognized by the American College of Cardiology Foundation.
Aspirus Wausau (Wis.). Hospital. Aspirus Wausau's Aspirus Heart and Vascular Institute prides itself on its 30-minute door-to-balloon time for patients experiencing cardiac arrest. Aspirus Wasau is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for heart care, and it has also been recognized by the American College of Cardiology Foundation.
Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center (Milwaukee). Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center's Cardiac Specialty Center specializes in the treatment of complex heart conditions, including adult congenital heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, Marfan's syndrome and valvular heart disease. Aurora St. Luke's was named to U.S. News & World Report's list of 50 hospitals with top cardiology and heart surgery programs in 2013-14.
Barnes-Jewish Hospital (St. Louis). The Heart and Vascular Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital cares for the largest number of cardiac patients in the St. Louis area and features a 21-bed cardiac intensive care unit for postoperative cardiac and thoracic surgery care. Barnes-Jewish was named to U.S. News & World Report's list of 50 hospitals with top cardiology and heart surgery programs in 2013-14.
Baptist Hospital East (Louisville, Ky.). Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston). Physicians at the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center at Brigham and Women's performed the first successful heart valve surgery in the world and has continued to be an innovator in cardiovascular research and technology. Bronson Methodist Hospital (Kalamazoo, Mich.). Bronson Methodist Hospital consistently ranks among top hospitals for heart attack care and heart surgery. Carolinas Medical Center (Charlotte, N.C.). Carolinas Medical Center's Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute is the Charleston region's only heart transplant center, and it offers award-winning pediatric cardiac and adult open-heart surgery, as well as cardiac rehabilitation. The hospital has earned many accolades, including recognition from the American College of Cardiology Foundation. It is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care, as well.
CaroMont Health (Gastonia, N.C.). CaroMont Health, formerly known as Gaston Memorial Hospital is affiliated with Columbia HeartSource, an outreach program form New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. CaroMont recently earned recognition from the American College of Cardiology Foundation and is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for heart care.
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles). Specialists at the Heart Institute at Cedars Sinai have performed the most heart transplants in the last two years of any hospital in the country. The center earned a spot on U.S. News & World Report's top 50 hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery.
Centerpoint Medical Center (Independence, Mo.). Centerpoint Medical Center is the largest provider of heart care in the Kansas City, Mo.-area. The hospital has earned recognition from the American College of Cardiology Foundation, is accredited by the National Society of Chest Pain and is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.
The Christ Hospital (Cincinnati). The Heart and Vascular Center at Christ Hospital is currently holding clinical trials for two interventional cardiology devices. The Christ Hospital is also devoted to educating patients on heart function and heart disease. It has received recognition from Blue Cross Blue Shield and the American College of Cardiology Foundation, and was also named to Truven Health Analytics' 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in 2012.
Cleveland Clinic. The Cleveland Clinic's Miller Family Heart and Vascular Institute is the largest cardiovascular practice in the country, also treating the largest volume of heart and vascular patients out of any other hospital. Among other accolades, it was named as the top hospital in the country for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. New & World Report's for 2013-14. This is Cleveland Clinic's 19th consecutive year in the top spot.
Crozer-Chester Medical Center (Upland, Pa.). Crozer-Chester Medical Center is a leader in establishing specialty cardiac programs for surgery and rehabilitation in its region, especially in open heart surgery and angioplasty. The hospital earned the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Platinum Performance Achievement Award in 2013, recognizing the hospital's high standard care for heart attack patients. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center.
Duke University Medical Center (Durham, N.C.). The Duke Heart Center is the analytic epicenter of many heart research programs, including data collection efforts from the American College of Cardiology, Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American Heart Association. The hospital earned a spot on U.S. News & World Report's 2013-14 list of top 50 hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery.
Emory University Hospital (Atlanta). Emory Heart and Vascular Center in Atlanta treats more than 13,000 patients per year. Emory physicians helped lead the transition from open-heart procedures to minimally invasive endoscopic procedures, and the center continues to be a major player in international research trials. Consistently recognized on U.S. News & World Report's list, the center again earned a spot on the 2013-14 edition of 50 hospitals with top heart and heart surgery programs.
Florida Hospital (Orlando). Florida Hospital Cardiovascular Institute handles more than 70,000 cases each year. The institute has a reputation for innovation and offers patients access to clinical trials. It was named as one of the top 50 hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report for 2013-14.
Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center. Hackensack University Medical Center describes its Heart and Vascular Hospital as a "hospital within a hospital," which to Hackensack means it subscribes to a multidisciplinary approach to heart care. The hospital was recently named as one of the top 50 hospitals in the country for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report.
Hahnemann University Hospital (Philadelphia). Hahnemann's heart care specialties include cardiothoracic surgery, catheterization and peripheral vascular services, echocardiography, electrophysiology, heart failure and transplant and nuclear cardiology. The nearly 200-bed hospital is recognized by the American Heart Association for its treatment of coronary artery disease and heart failure. Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia). Penn Heart and Vascular at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania is regularly recognized, both domestically and abroad, for its cardiovascular research and care. Houston Methodist Hospital. Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital. Huntsville Hospital is a Joint Commission-accredited disease management specialty clinic, has a five-star rating for cardiac surgery from Healthgrades and is celebrating recognition from the American Heart Association's "Get With the Guidelines" program for coronary artery disease, heart failure and stroke. The hospital is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care and has been recognized by the American College of Cardiology Foundation.
Integris Baptist Medical Center (Oklahoma City). Through its Advanced Cardiac Care program, Integris Baptist Medical Center boasts three-year survival rates as high as 80 percent after heart transplants. It recently earned recognition as a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care and is recognized for heart attack care excellence by the American College of Cardiology Foundation.
IU Health Methodist Hospital (Indianapolis). Under IU's cardiovascular program, IU Health Methodist specialists recently implanted the first artificial heart transplanted in Indiana. The hospital embodies this excellence throughout its comprehensive heart surgery and heart care program, having been named to the U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care for the second year in a row in 2013-14.
John Muir Medical Center (Concord, Calif.). John Muir Medical Center offers prevention and wellness services and a heart program specifically designed for women. The hospital is one of three in the Bay Area participating in clinical trials for transcatheter aortic valve replacements. It has been recognized by Blue Cross Blue Shield as a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.
Johns Hopkins Hospital (Baltimore). The Johns Hopkins Heart and Vascular Institute s heavily involved in cutting-edge cardiovascular research, including recent research on heart disease prevention and effects of heart medications such as statins. Lancaster (Pa.) General Hospital. Physicians at Lancaster Heart & Vascular Institute perform more heart procedures than those at any other heart center in its area, and the hospital has one of the lowest heart attack readmission rates in the country. Lenox Hill Hospital (New York City). Physicians at Lenox Hill were the first to perform several procedures in the United States, including the first angiogram and the first drug-coated stent implantation. Liberty (Mo.) Hospital. Loyola University Medical Center (Maywood, Ill.). Loyola University Medical Center's department of cardiology has received Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for nursing excellence and earned a place as one of the top 20 hospitals in the country for heart care from U.S. News & World Report in 2013-14.
Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston). The origin of Massachusetts General's cardiovascular services dates back nearly 100 years. Scientists at its Cardiovascular Research Center recently identified a master heart stem cell that is critical for the recreation of heart tissue to repair damaged hearts. U.S. News & World Report named Massachusetts General as one of the top 10 hospitals for heart care in 2013-14.
Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minn.). Physicians in the department of cardiology and vascular medicine at Mayo Clinic treat 55,000 patients each year. The department is heavily involved in patient education and has a book for commercial sale: Mayo Clinic Heart Healthy for Life! Truven Health Analytics named it to its 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in 2012, and U.S. News & World Report named Mayo Clinic as one of the top hospitals in the country for heart care in 2013-14.
McLaren Bay Region (Bay City, Mich.). McLaren Bay Region's Bay Heart and Vascular center is committed to making care accessible and transparent to patients through extensive, patient-friendly video documentation of cardiac treatments. Medical University Hospital of South Carolina (Charleston, S.C.). Medical University Hospital of South Carolina is the state's only full-service heart and vascular center and was home to the first heart transplant in South Carolina more than 20 years ago. MedStar Washington (D.C.) Hospital Center. MedStar's cardiology team focuses on excellent diagnosis through imaging, electrophysiology, biopsy, heart scanning, nuclear cardiology and stress testing. MedStar Washington was recently named a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care and was named one of the top 30 hospitals in the country for heart care by U.S. News & World Report in 2013-14.
Memorial Medical Center (Springfield, Ill.). Memorial Medical Center's heart care program includes a significant educational component for children in an attempt to make a lasting impact on heart health. Mercy Medical Center (Des Moines, Iowa). The Iowa Heart Center at Mercy Medical Center started as a one-physician practice in 1970. and now sees more than 10,000 cardiac procedures performed annually. Mercy received the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care. Truven Health Analytics also named it one of its 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in 2012.
Methodist Hospital of Southern California (Arcadia). Methodist Hospital of Southern California's cardiology program offers a new heart care support group called Mended Heart, which provides complimentary psychological resources for cardiac patients and providers. The center was one of 164 hospitals to earn The American College of Cardiology Foundation's Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction designation for cardiac care.
Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx, N.Y.). The Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart and Vascular Care is committed to research and innovation and has been a hub of technological and procedural development, including advancements in surgical ventricular reconstruction and cardiac stem cell research. U.S. News & World Report named the hospital as one of the top 40 hospitals for cardiology and cardiac surgery in 2013-14.
Morristown (N.J.) Medical Center. The Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute at Morristown Medical Center offers individualized care, and its physicians perform the most open-heart surgeries of any hospital in New Jersey each year. Mount Sinai Medical Center (New York City). Mount Sinai's heart center houses the largest cardiac catheterization laboratory in the country. The hospital's heart care team has a 99 percent success rate in mitral valve reconstruction. The hospital was recently named to U.S. News & World Report's top 15 hospitals for heart care in the United States.
Nebraska Methodist Hospital (Omaha). Methodist Cardiac and Vascular Center offers individualized comprehensive cardiac care. The Nebraska Medical Center (Omaha). The Nebraska Medical Center's heart and vascular program is the only one to have Joint Commission's "Gold Seal of Approval" in the state. NewYork-Presbyterian University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell (New York City). NewYork-Presbyterian's cardiologists have performed more heart transplants than any of those at any other hospital in the United States. NewYork-Presbyterian supports its cardiac care with a research-based heart disease prevention program. Providence St. Vincent Medical Center (Portland, Ohio). Providence Heart and Vascular Institute includes more than 80 specialists and surgeons with cardiology expertise. The institute was recognized for its excellence in heart attack care by the American College of Cardiology Foundation in 2013. Providence's heart team was the first in the state to implant a sapien aortic heart valve in 2012.
The Reading Hospital and Medical Center (West Reading, Penn.). The Miller Regional Heart Center at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center devotes itself to five key areas built on evidence-based guidelines: prevention, diagnosis, treatment, cardiac rehabilitation and supportive services. The hospital has earned recognition from Blue Cross Blue Shield and the American College of Cardiology Foundation.
Resurrection Medical Center (Chicago). Resurrection Medical Center was the first hospital in Illinois to receive accreditation for its chest pain center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. The American College of Cardiology Foundation recently recognized Plaza Medical with its Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care. Rex Hospital (Raleigh, N.C.). The Heart and Vascular Center at Rex Hospital is comprised of four specialty practices in Raleigh and surrounding areas. The hospital's heart attack survival statistics are the best in Wake County, and the program features an accredited chest pain center. The full-service program was recently recognized for high-quality heart care from The American College of Cardiology Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Riverside Medical Center (Kankakee, Ill.). Riverside's Medical Center's Riverside-Rush Center for Heart & Vascular Excellence has seen more than 2,600 open-heart surgeries and more than 20,000 catheterizations to date. The American College of Cardiology Foundation recently recognized the hospital with its Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care.
