Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan., plans to open a $28 million children's hospital within its main campus, according to a report by The Wichita Eagle.
The children's hospital, which will be attached to the current building and does not yet have a name, will include 30 private rooms for pediatric patients and 15 private pediatric intensive care rooms, according to the report.
Given that the nearest children's hospitals are in Kansas City, Mo., and Oklahoma City, the aim with the children's hospital on Wesley's main campus is to create as many subspecialties as possible so parents and families don't have to travel, Bill Voloch, interim president and CEO of Wesley, told The Wichita Eagle.
Construction could start as early as June.
