Tampa, Fla.-based health insurer WellCare Health Plans has completed its acquisition of Minnetonka, Minn.-based health giant UnitedHealthcare's Medicaid business in South Carolina.
Details of the transaction were not disclosed, other than assurance to customers and providers that no changes will be made and that it had appointed Dave Shafer as president of the South Carolina program and Kathy Warner as its chief operating officer.
WellCare initially announced the agreement on Oct. 31, 2012. The plan is available in 39 of South Carolina's 46 counties.
