'We need more bench strength': Indiana system outsources RCM

Greenfield, Ind.-based Hancock Health is outsourcing 49 revenue cycle team members to Revology, a revenue cycle management firm, effective Nov. 4, due to increasing difficulties in meeting insurance company demands.

"Simply put, our Hancock Health revenue cycle team is amazing, but we need more bench strength," a spokesperson for Hancock Health said in a Sept. 24 statement shared with Becker's. "Please know this decision was not made lightly and is not an effort to reduce FTEs or to save money. This is a strategic decision designed to help with the tremendous growth we are experiencing, and to be ready for even greater growth in the future."

Some of the titles affected include director, claims analyst, billing supervisor, revenue data analyst and coding specialist, the statement said.

The statement also detailed that the health information management department will remain a Hancock Health department under one of the health system's leaders and report to Tammy Strunk, RN, Hancock Health's chief nursing officer. The transition will affect only revenue cycle associates who report to two Hancock Health leaders: Linda Lane, director of patient financial services, or Sarah Brain, medical billing director.

While all of the associates have been offered Revology positions, one individual chose to retire, according to the statement.
