Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems and Arizona's Medicaid program, the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, have agreed to a one-year contract extension with Vanguard's Medicaid managed care plan, according to documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Vanguard's Phoenix Health Plan has covered Arizona Medicaid beneficiaries for more than 25 years. PHP is also part of Phoenix-based Abrazo Health Care, Vanguard's five-hospital system and second-largest health system in Arizona.
The contract between PHP and AHCCCS will run through Sept. 30, 2013. In fiscal year 2012, $635.9 million of Vanguard's revenue came from PHP's operations.
