VA taps Lockheed Martin to help with claims backlog

Systems Made Simple, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin, has renewed its contract with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Veterans Benefits Administration to speed up the processing time of veterans' disability claims.

Lockheed plans to help the VA with its current claims backlog by implementing an electronic claims process. The five-year task order, valued at $262 million, is a continuation of the relationship the organizations began in 2012.

"Lockheed Martin's experience in IT modernization and submission processing, coupled with our existing contributions to reducing the claims backlog and timely delivery of veteran's benefits, uniquely qualify us to continue serving this critical mission [of improving veteran's care]," said Horace Blackman, vice president of the health and life sciences team at Lockheed Martin's Information Systems & Global Solutions.
