Pittsburgh-based UPMC has signed a one-year agreement with Haikou, China-based First Chengmei Medical Industry Group to provide cancer care services on HainanIsland, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The agreement marks UPMC's third health services partnership in China.
Under the deal, UPMC will provide clinical training opportunities for FCMIG physicians and nurses in Haikou and Pittsburgh. The first areas of training — which will begin this summer — will include medical, radiation and surgical oncology, according to the report.
UPMC experts will also travel to Haikou to make recommendations on hospital operations, such as information technology, supply chain management, patient satisfaction and quality of care.
FCMIG is a subsidiary of First Investment of Holding Group, which owns three hospitals in the greater Haikou region. FCMIG CEO Lin Shi Quan said he anticipates the agreement is the first step in a long-term relationship with UPMC covering a variety of clinical services, according to the report.
