UNLV receives $4M to expand mental health services

HHS Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration awarded $4 million in collaborative federal grants to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and community partners to expand mental health services.

The funding helped create two evidence-based treatment programs for young people in the early stages of bipolar disorders and those at risk for psychosis, according to an Oct. 31 news release.

"The collaborative nature of this project has been substantial and significant. I hope it sets a framework for other efforts moving forward," said Dan Allen, PhD, professor of psychology and lead investigator for the grant programs.

Nevada is experiencing a mental health crisis with too few providers and treatment options available to meet the demand, according to the release.
