University Hospitals to cut labor, delivery services at Ohio hospital

Cleveland-based University Hospitals is ending labor and delivery services at UH Lake West in Willoughby, Ohio, effective April 15. Services will be consolidated at TriPoint in Concord Township, which is about 15 miles away, according to the health system.

Employees at UH Lake West will be able to transition to positions at other locations across the health system, including UH TriPoint and UH Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood, Ohio, which will open a new women and newborn center this summer.

UH is notifying current patients and expectant mothers of these plans. They do not need to change their providers, the health system said.

Over the next few years, UH will invest $25.5 million to expand and modernize services at UH Lake West and UH TriPoint medical centers, including improving the birthing center at TriPoint and adding four Level 2 NICU suites.
