The University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System and health insurer Cigna have finalized a new contract that resolved differences over reimbursements rates, a dispute that has lasted for more than 17 months, according to a Birmingham Business Journal report.
In May 2010, Cigna's contract with UAB expired. According to the report, nearly 60,000 Cigna enrollees were unable to receive in-network rates at the state's largest health system.
Details of the new contract were not released. It will take effect Jan. 1, 2012.
