Salt Lake City-based University of Utah Hospital received a $5.3 million donation from the Lary H. and Gail Miller Family Foundation to advance a diabetes prevention initiative, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
The donation will support the "Driving Out Diabetes" initiative, which will take a multi-pronged approach to treating and preventing the disease.
"We are about to engage in a remarkable journey that will take diabetes head-on," Lorris Betz, University of Utah's interim senior vice president for the health sciences, told the Salt Lake Tribune.
The gift was announced by Gail Miller — who owns Sandy, Utah-based Larry H. Miller Group — in honor of her late husband, who died of complications from Type II diabetes.
