Here are the top 26 gifts and pledges to hospitals or healthcare organizations in 2019.
The Chronicle of Philanthropy maintains a database of gifts of $1 million or more made by individuals to charitable institutions.
This list includes gifts under "health" and "medical research" by The Chronicle of Philanthropy and those reported by Becker's Hospital Review. Please note that many gifts are of equal value.
1. $261 million to Cleveland Clinic
Donor: Lord Foundation, created by Thomas Lord, the owner of a private technology and manufacturing company called the Lord Corp.
Details: The donation will be used to support medical education and research.
2. $200 million to Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston)
Donor: Phillip Ragon and Susan Ragon. Mr. Ragon founded InterSystems Corp., which sells database software to banks and hospitals.
Details: The donation will support vaccine research at the hospital.
3. $200 million to Rady Children's Hospital (San Diego)
Donor: Ernest Rady and Evelyn Rady. Mr. Rady serves as executive chairman, president and CEO of American Assets Trust, a real estate investment trust.
Details: The donation will go toward a campus redesign, including technology upgrades and building expansions.
4. $106 million to Weill Neurohub (San Francisco)
Donor: Sanford Weill and Joan Weill. Mr. Weill is chairman emeritus of Citigroup.
Details: The donation will establish a neurohub to bring together researchers and clinicians from University of California Berkeley, University of California San Francisco and University of Washington to develop treatments for neurological and psychiatric diseases.
5. $100 million to the New York Genome Center (New York City)
Donor: James Simons, a mathematician who founded hedge fund Renaissance Technologies.
Details: The genome center will use the gift for collaborative research programs in neurodegenerative conditions, neuropsychiatric diseases and cancer.
6. $75 million to New York Langone Medical Center (New York City)

Details: The gift will establish a new Center for Blood Cancer, support efforts to improve patient care and advance research on multiple myeloma.
7. $75 million to the Providence (Portland, Ore.)
Donor: Philip Knight and Penelope Knight. Mr. Knight is the co-founder and chairman of Nike in Oregon.
Details: The donation will expand the hospital's heart institute and support the creation of a heart transplant program.
8. $70 million to the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute
Donor: Richard Lundquist and Melanie Liundquist. Mr. Lundquist owns real estate developer Continental Development Corp.
Details: The institute will use the gift to expand biotech research.
9. $50 million to Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston)
Donor: James Herscot and Carol Herscot. Mr. Herscot founded Princeton Properties Management, a real estate company based in Lowell, Mass. Fifty years ago, their son was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex, a genetic disorder characterized by the growth of benign tumors in the body.
Details: The donation will create the Herscot Center for Children and Adults with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. It will also back a variety of capital projects.
10. $25 million to Saint John's Health Center Foundation (Santa Monica, Calif.)
Donor: Anonymous
Details: The donation will support the Providence Saint John's Health Center, the John Wayne Cancer Institute and Pacific Neuroscience Institute.
11. $25 million to the New York Genome Center (New York City)
Donor: Russell Carson, the co-founder and general partner of private investment firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe.
Details: The donation will be used toward collaborative research programs focusing on neurodegenerative conditions, neuropsychiatric diseases and cancer.
12. $25 million to Sanford Health (Sioux Falls, S.D.)
Donor: T. Denny Sanford, chairman of the United National Corp., a commercial banking provider for retail and institutional customers.
Details: The gift will be used to enhance precision medicine initiatives at the health system, which include offering free genetic testing to U.S. military veterans to identify most-effective treatments and genetic counseling.
13. $25 million to OSF HealthCare (Peoria, Ill.)
Donor: Bill DiSomma, founder of Jump Trading, an investment firm in Chicago.
Details: The matching gift from Mr. DiSomma will be used to expand the system's Jump ARCHES program. ARCHES stands for Applied Research for Community Health Through Engineering and Simulation program.
14. $25 million to Children's Hospital Los Angeles

Details: The gift will back the hospital's neurological institute, including helping to fund the construction and creation of a multidisciplinary outpatient center.
15. $25 million to Boca Raton (Fla.) Regional Hospital Foundation
Donor: Leon Cooperman, the chairman and CEO hedge fund OmegaAdvisers and former chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management.
Details: The gift will support the foundation's capital campaign. Its Medical arts pavilion will be renamed after the donor.
16. $23 million to Cleveland Clinic
Donor: Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation. Morton Mandel helped create the foundation with his late brothers and founded Premier Industrial Corp., a distributor of electrical equipment.
Details: The gift will help support leadership courses at the health systems global leadership and learning institute.
17. $20.2 million to Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston)
Donor: Frank Resnek and Barbara Resnek. Mrs. Resnek is a retired lawyer. Mr. Resneck is partner of Fenway Sports Group, the parent company of the Boston Red Sox.
Details: The hospital will establish a center for primary sclerosing cholangitis research, a rare liver disease.
18. $20 million to Nationwide Children's Hospital (Columbus, Ohio)
Donor: Leslie Wexner and Abigail Wexner. Leslie Wexner is chairman and CEO of Limited Brands Corp., which operates retail stores, including Victoria's Secret. Abigail Wexner founded the Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence.
Details: The donation will support the hospital's center for family safety and healing.
19. $20 million to Inova Schar Cancer Institute (Falls Church, Va.)
Donor: Gary Mather and Tina Mather. Mr. Mather is senior partner emeritus at Booz Allen Hamilton, an information technology consulting company.
Details: The gift will go toward recruiting oncologists, conducting research, expanding educational programs and expanding proton therapy treatment availability.
20. $20 million to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles)
Donor: Min and Fan Kao. Mr. Kao is an electrical engineer who co-founded Garmin Corp., which makes devices that use GPS technology.
Details: The gift will create the Kao Autoimmunity Institute to study and treat rheumatologic diseases. In addition it will support the establishment of a scleroderma program.
21. $18.7 million Park Nicollet Foundation, which supports HealthPartners (Bloomington, Minn.)
Donor: Kendrick Melrose, the retired CEO and chairman of Toro Co., a lawn and landscape care company.
Details: The gift will support the Melrose Center, which provides treatment to people suffering from eating disorders. It will also establish the Kendrick Melrose Leadership and Excellence Endowment Fund.
22. $16 million to Inova Health System (Falls Church, Va.)
Donor: Russell Hitt, chairman emeritus of Hitt Contracting, a construction company founded by his parents.
Details: The gift will support a program to help patients with substance-use disorders receive treatment at Inova Behavioral Health.
23. $15 million to the Broad Institute (Cambridge, Mass.)
Donor: Louis Gerstner Jr., a retired CEO and chairman of technology firm IBM and senior adviser at a private equity company Carlyle Group.
Details: The Broad Institute, the biomedical and genomic research center of Cambridge-based MIT and Harvard, will establish the Gerstner Center for Cancer Diagnostics with the gift.
24. $15 million to Norwalk (Conn.) Hospital
Donor: George Bauer and Carol Bauer. Mr. Bauer served in an executive role at technology giant IBM. He is now retired.
Details: The gift will support construction of a new patient pavilion.
25. $15 million to Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minn.)
Donor: Jay Alix, the founder of AlixPartners, a consulting firm in New York.
Details: The gift will endow a fund that will advance innovative ideas for the health system.
26. $15 million to University Hospitals (Cleveland)
Donor: Alexander Cutler and Sarah Cutler. Mr. Cutler was the chairman and CEO of Eaton Corp., an international electrical systems management company. He retired in 2016.
Details: The gift will establish the Cutler Center for men's comprehensive healthcare.
