Audit review requests to Titus Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant, Texas, have greatly decreased, according to a Daily Tribune report.
Last March, the hospital received audit demand letters from Medicare recovery audit contractors for approximately 1 percent of the hospital's Medicare patient care listings, according to David Taylor, director of Patient Financial Services at TRMC. Now, requests are less than ½ percent. Mr. Taylor said TRMC did not need to assign additional staff to manage the requests because of the low volume.
Of TRMC's original 72 complex reviews, RACs found Medicare was owed 7 percent at approximately $64,573 and TRMC was underpaid once at $4,864. TRMC has appealed four complex reviews. In addition, Medicare recouped approximately $5,708 from 11 technical reviews. The Medicare take backs included three complete denials by RACs and eight instances involving levels of coding.
