Temple University Health System's operating loss narrows to $26.2M

Philadelphia-based Temple University Health System saw its financial position improve in the six months ended Dec. 31, according to recently released unaudited financial documents.

The health system reported revenues of $911.9 million in the six-month period that ended Dec. 31, up from $843.8 million in the same period of the year prior. TUHS said the boost was partially attributable to higher outpatient revenue due to increases in chemotherapy infusion volumes and retail pharmacy activity.

The health system's operating expenses climbed 6.2 percent year over year to $941.2 million in the six months ended Dec. 31. Higher expenses related to supplies, pharmaceuticals and salaries drove the growth.

TUHS ended the six-month period with an operating loss of $26.2 million, compared to an operating loss of $39.1 million in the six months ended Dec. 31, 2017.
