The availability of health insurance subsidies under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act contributed to the expansion of health coverage in 2014, according to a recent report from the Government Accountability Office.
When tax credits are applied, the average monthly health insurance premium for those who signed up for coverage under the PPACA falls to $264 a month, down from $346 per month, according to the report.
With nearly 90 percent of people who signed up for coverage under the PPACA qualifying for tax credits, the subsidies are instrumental in the success of the health reform law.
PPACA subsidies are currently in limbo, as the U.S. Supreme Court is set to release its opinion in late June or early July on whether subsidies should be allowed in all states.
