South Dakota could be the next state to move toward Medicaid managed care, as state lawmakers finalize plans to drive down costs in the state's program, according to an Argus Leader report.
Legislators have suggested several alterations to the Medicaid program, including higher co-pays for medication, capping adult dental benefits and diverting non-emergency visits from the emergency room, according to the report. CMS will have to approve the plan before it is implemented.
Roughly one in seven South Dakota residents is a Medicaid recipient, and the program costs roughly $850 million per year.
