Sign-up window announced for 2016 open enrollment period

The next open enrollment period for signing up for insurance under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will start Nov. 1 and end Jan. 31, 2016, according to revised regulations from President Barack Obama's administration.

For months, there has been pressure on administration officials to move open enrollment to the spring so it doesn't occur "at the same time people's wallets and attention are stretched by the holidays," according to The Wall Street Journal.

Additionally, some health law boosters say when there's bad weather, enrollment activists have a harder time going door-to-door, and people have a harder time making it to sign-up events, the report reads.

The administration originally proposed having the 2016 open enrollment period start Oct. 1 and run through Dec. 15.
