Massillon, Ohio-based Affinity Medical Center, a 156-bed hospital that closed in 2018, could soon reopen as a medical mall, The Independent reported Dec. 19.
MediShield Solutions, a personal protective equipment provider is renovating the facility so that several medical services could be provided in the space by spring 2024.
The hospital, formerly owned by Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health, includes five operating rooms and a modern emergency room, according to the report. Plans could include leasing Affinity to a health system to implement service, but no such deal has been made yet, according to the report.
"We're doing all the necessary preparations," MediShield president and CEO Mike Farina told the publication. "It's important to get a medical facility to open here."
The city of Massillon took over the Affinity building and related properties from Quorum in mid-2018 for $1, with the goal of finding a new hospital operator, according to the report. In late 2020, the city auctioned the facility for $467,500.
