Seton Healthcare to Build $295M Teaching Hospital

Seton Healthcare Family, an 11-hospital system based in Austin, Texas, will build a new teaching hospital to replace University Medical Center Brackenridge, also in Austin.

The hospital, expected to cost $295 million and contain 211 beds, will be named Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas. It will serve as the primary teaching and training site for students at UT at Austin's new Dell Medical School. While Seton will own and operate the hospital, the facility will be built on land owned by UT at Austin and subleased to Seton through the county's healthcare district.

Construction on Seton Medical Center will begin later this year, with an expected completion and opening in 2017.

Seton Healthcare Family is part of St. Louis-based Ascension Health, the largest nonprofit health system in the country.
