Senate Democrats block 'keep your plan' bill

In a 247-167 vote, the Senate blocked The Employee Health Care Protection Act of 2014, which would let people keep their insurance plans, even if they are not compliant with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to a report from The Hill.

The Act would allow insurers to offer group health insurance plans that they offered on any date in 2013, even if the plans do not meet the "minimum essential coverage" requirement of the PPACA. Under the Act, insurers would be permitted to sell the non-compliant plans until Dec. 31, 2018.

Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) proposed the bill, which passed the House in a 247-167 vote earlier in September.
