Nearly three-fourths, or 72 percent, of healthcare workers cite reimbursements and payments as the biggest challenges for management teams in the healthcare service industry, according to a Carl Marks Advisors survey.
For its survey, Carl Marks Advisors polled 125 individuals who advise or work for hospitals and clinics, home health and nursing facilities, physician practices, laboratories, and financial services providers. The survey was distributed online in October.
In addition to reimbursement and payment pain points, more than 61 percent of respondents cited staffing shortages as a large and persistent problem. More than half (56 percent) of respondents also said cost and the complexity of implementing new technology continue to challenge them.
"Healthcare services organizations may be delaying or shelving needed technology investments in part because of concerns about return on investment," according to Carl Marks Advisors. "More than 76 percent of survey respondents said that the ROI from these upgrades is not commensurate with the associated cost and disruption."
