Hospitals should proactively manage health insurance claim denials, advised Delena Supinski, corporate ambassador for revenue cycle solutions provider ImagineSoftware.
"An ounce of proactive prevention outweighs a pound of denials," she said. "Track your denial reasons and narrow down the source, which will allow you to eliminate denials before they happen."
Ms. Supinski specifically recommended that hospitals track:
- Denials due to coding inaccuracies all the way to the coder
- Denials on point of service and site reporting incorrect POS
- Denials due to no insurance prior authorization issues
- Denials due to incorrect date of service
- Denials for incorrect subscriber ID
