Hospital-employed physician practices and medical groups can achieve improved performance by leveraging data, according to Kyle Kobe, vice president of consulting/analytics services for Alpharetta, Ga.-based nThrive.
Mr. Kobe shared the following tip with Becker's Hospital Review.
"As healthcare organizations drive toward value-based care, the ability to lessen physician practice losses continues to be progressively more critical as declining payments and revenues are more common. To construct an effective and immediate improvement plan, you must look to your practice data for answers.
"The first step in the journey toward building higher-functioning physician practices is to discover and quantify the cause of physician losses. At the onset of physician practice analysis, you should begin not with on-site interviews, but instead by interfacing with the data systems — financial, billing and payroll. This holistic view into practice data allows you to fully recognize and address physician practice gaps and opportunities. Undeniably, data provides the quantifiable insight and context to empower physicians to make the necessary adjustments that will lead to higher-functioning, financially lean practices."
