RCM tip of the day: Don't let low-priority claims linger

Implementing an efficient process to manage low-balance patient accounts can help ensure a hospital receives full reimbursement for its services, said James Dressman, executive director at Professional Medical Services, a Fort Worth, Texas-based claims-management company.

According to Mr. Dressman, a large backlog of low-priority claims can create a problem for organizations that becomes harder to solve over time.

Organizations can prevent revenue loss by pursuing all levels of claims and effectively organizing data, he said.

"It may seem cost-effective to keep claims management processes in house, but partnering with a trusted industry expert allows you to make sure no accounts get lost in your billing backlog," said Mr. Dressman. "With assistance cleaning up your aged accounts, you can attain the level of efficiency you need to be successful."
