The namesake of Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego donated a historic $200 million to the hospital to support a campus redesign, including technology upgrades and expansions.
The donation, the largest in the hospital's history and among the largest gifts ever made to a U.S. children's hospital, is from Ernest and Evelyn Rady.
"This is a landmark day for pediatric healthcare," said Patrick Frias, MD, Rady Children’s president & CEO. "This historic investment will transform our physical campus and enable Rady Children’s to pursue a rigorous campus redesign."
The donation will be funneled into the Rady Reimagine Fund, which is earmarked to support campus priorities and spur investments from other philanthropists.
"It is my hope that the community will be inspired to join us and invest in keeping kids healthy,” Mr. Rady said. "Our most vulnerable population deserves strong advocates. It’s up to our community to make sure every child has the best possible care available."
The Radys have already donated millions to support the children's hospital, including a $60 million grant in 2006 to support campus expansion and $120 million a few years later to establish the Rady Children's Institute for Genomic Medicine.
Mr. Rady serves as executive chairman, president and CEO of American Assets Trust, a real estate investment trust.
