President Barack Obama's administration announced this week that about 11.4 million people signed up for private health coverage in the 2015 open enrollment period for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
That estimate included 8.6 million people who signed up for coverage in the 37 states using HealthCare.gov, as well as an additional 2.8 million who had signed up in states operating their own exchanges during the 2015 open enrollment period that began Nov. 15, 2014 and closed Feb. 15, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Data from Kaiser Family Foundation, which was cited by The Wall Street Journal, shows that more than 50 percent of the potential market signed up in the following six states:
Florida — 64 percent
Maine — 60 percent
Pennsylvania — 52 percent
Delaware — 52 percent
North Carolina — 51 percent
New Hampshire — 51 percent
The KFF data shows less than 30 percent of the potential market signed up in the following seven states:
Nevada — 28 percent
Arkansas — 26 percent
Ohio — 25 percent
Alaska — 24 percent
North Dakota — 23 percent
South Dakota — 21 percent
Iowa — 20 percent
