'Please give what you can': Connecticut hospital asks community for funding

Kurt Barwis, president and CEO of Bristol (Conn.) Health, wrote a letter to community members asking for monetary support due to struggles resulting from cash reserve depletion brought on by the pandemic.

The letter, shared with Becker's, said although Bristol Health received federal and state support, its foundation reserves have been used to sustain its mission, and the health system must now rebuild that funding.

"While our bond lenders have formally waived the 45-day cash-on-hand requirement, it will revert back on September 30, 2024," Mr. Barwis said in the letter.

Calling it a "personal ask," Mr. Barwis tapped the community for its support and commitment.

"Bristol Health needs your support now, please give what you can and dig as deep as you can — we have a long way to rebuild our cash-on-hand reserves," he wrote. "Also, please support Bristol Health by using its network of high-quality health service providers."

Bristol Hospital's 154-bed facility became Bristol Health in 2019 and has 20 locations with more than 100 primary and specialty care providers.
