Both outpatient and inpatient volumes improved in August versus the previous month, reversing some decline seen in July over June, according to the most recent "National Hospital Flash Report" from Kaufman Hall.
Year-to-date outpatient trends were particularly notable when compared with year-to-date 2020 numbers, with a national median increase of 47 percent. Outpatient volumes were especially stronger in the South and the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic regions.
Year-to-date outpatient revenue was also up compared with the same period last year, with a national median of 12 percent improvement.
The report, released Oct. 2, included data from more than 1,300 hospitals across the U.S.
